Liverpool welcome promoted Birmingham City to Anfield as the Reds return to Barclays Premier League action.

The two sides met in the Carling Cup at St Andrews last season with Daniel Agger scoring the only goal of the game for Liverpool.

The previous campaign Liverpool hammered Birmingham 7-0 in the FA Cup quarter-final at St Andrews.

The last top flight meeting between the two sides at Anfield was February 1st 2006. Steven Gerrard opened the scoring for Liverpool but Xabi Alonso's own goal, three minutes from time, earned the Blues a point. Substitute Robbie Fowler got a standing ovation when he came on for his 'second' Liverpool debut and had an injury time goal disallowed.

Steve Bruce's side got a good win at the weekend when they beat Bolton 1-0 at St Andrews thanks to a goal from newboy Olivier Kapo.
