Wigan Reserves 0-3 Liverpool Reserves
0 Comments Published by NeOtHeOnE on Saturday 22 September 2007 at 10:42. Paul Hassall 20 September 2007 Gary Ablett was a satisfied man after watching an inexperienced Reserves side secure victory against Wigan last night. | |
The Reserve team coach was delighted to see his team score three goals without reply and felt the chance to play at the JJB Stadium was great motivation for the youngsters. "On the whole we are really pleased," he said. "We knew it would be fantastic to go and play in the JJB (Stadium) which we really enjoyed. "I think the game went according to plan and throughout the match the players showed an understanding of the work we've been trying to do with them over the last three months, so that was really pleasing. "We have struggled to score goals in the past and so I was delighted we scored three and we possibly should have had a couple more on top of that. "We are improving and we want to continue to improve and as long as the players want to get better we will keep working hard." The likes of Stephen Darby, Craig Lindfield and Nabil El Zhar went into the game hoping to impress manager Rafa Benitez ahead of Tuesday’s Carling Cup third round tie at Reading but it was the performance of winger Sebastian Leto that caught the eye, with the Argentinean creating two of the three goals. "Sebastian still needs a lot of work, but he’ll be the first to admit that," said Ablett. "We need to try and bed him into the system and the way the manager wants him to play. "I think he’ll do a lot of that with us over the next month or so. "But he has great possibilities of getting a game for the first-team and obviously the manager will be picking a side for next week’s Carling Cup match. "Whether he’s involved in that I don’t know but we’ll go back and we’ll speak (with Rafael Benitez) and we will see what happens." |
