The Reds travel to Ewood Park hoping to build upon an impressive run of away results that has seen them pick up four wins and one draw from their first five Premier League matches on the road.

Rafael Benitez's side are still unbeaten in the league so far this season but they will have to be at their best against Mark Hughes' side if they are to build upon their solid start.

Rovers are currently one point ahead of Liverpool in fifth place and although they suffered the shock of an early exit from the Uefa Cup, they have been in fine form in the Premier League winning six of their first 10 matches.

Last season Mark Hughes' side were fortunate to win a one-sided Boxing Day clash 1-0 at Ewood Park courtesy of a goal from Benni McCarthy and the South African was also on target at Anfield earlier in the campaign, but Craig Bellamy's equaliser earned Liverpool a 1-1 draw.

In fact, McCarthy is still Rovers' main threat and has already seven goals this season, with Roque Santa Cruz and England Under-21 international Matt Derbyshire supporting him to give Hughes' side more than enough firepower.

The Reds go into the clash nursing a lengthy injury-list with Xabi Alonso, Jermaine Pennant and Fernando Torres all ruled out, and they will need to dig deep if they are to return to Merseyside with all three points.
