The Reds once again head back to Istanbul hoping to clinch the victory that would reinvigorate their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League Knockout Stages.

Rafa Benitez's men have been imperious in Europe in recent years but they have made a patchy start to their Group A campaign, following up a nervy 1-1 draw in Porto with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Marseille.

In Besiktas they face a side who know they need maximum points if they are to maintain any serious aspirations of reaching the knockout phase.

Ertugrul Saglam's men are currently bottom of the standings after their 2-0 defeat in Marseille was followed by a cruel last-gasp loss at home to FC Porto.

But with the likes of Ricardinho, Eduardo Cisse and Bobo in their ranks they still have the players capable of causing Pepe Reina and his Liverpool defence problems and they are a match for most teams in the BLK Inonu Stadium.

The two sides have never met before but Reds fans have bitter-sweet memories of previous visits to Istanbul with the Ataturk Stadium featuring prominently in recent years.

No-one will ever forget the events that transpired on that magical night back in May 2005 while in great contrast, the dead-rubber away to Galatasaray last year ended with a weakened Liverpool side slumping to a narrow 3-2 defeat.
